Z.ai is the international brand of Beijing’s Zhipu AI, the lab behind the GLM models; founder Jie Tang’s announcement calls GLM-5.2 “Zhipu’s most capable open-source model to date” (post). In this corpus it is the lab that turned the export-control shutdown of Fable 5 into an argument for “radical openness”, fully open-sourcing GLM-5.2 within hours under the banner that frontier intelligence belongs to everyone. Three days later that model was crowned the leading open model by Artificial Analysis and took first on Design Arena past a “now unavailable” Claude Fable 5.
