Asked on X by Alex Volkov how much of the new Cowork app Claude Code had written, its creator Boris Cherny answered that it wrote all of it, and the newsletter puts the build at a week and a half (X); Anthropic’s own announcement describes Claude Cowork as a research-preview desktop app with direct access to the file system for sorting downloads and generating reports. It is the corpus’s first whole product, rather than a pull request or a feature, reported as written end to end by a lab’s own coding agent, following Cherny’s 200 pull requests in December and Torvalds vibe-coding the day before. Anthropic’s CEO says two weeks later that AI writes much of the lab’s code, and by February its product chief puts the figure at effectively 100%.
